Payment for Placements (P4P) began at the University of Michigan in November of 2021 and has since grown to 50+ chapters across the country (and counting)!

P4P was co-founded at the University of Michigan in November 2021 by MSW students Matt Dargay and Arie Davey alongside other social work students who were new to organizing but passionate about fighting to end unpaid internships.

Their first action was a January 2022 petition to the University of Michigan, School of Social Work’s administration demanding an administration-student task force. They achieved the support of 73% of the student body in one month. In March, the task force met for the first time. Since then, thanks to the advocacy of P4P at the University of Michigan and others, Michigan implemented state-wide stipends for graduate social work students completing their internships in public schools.

Today, there are 50+ P4P chapters (and counting) at schools of social work and other colleges with degree-required internships across the United States.
